Jolevski at the UN: We are considering increasing the participation of the ARM in peacekeeping operations

-

The Ministry of Defense is considering increasing the participation of the Macedonian Army (ARM) in peacekeeping operations, said Defense Minister Zoran Jolevski, during a visit to the United Nations Headquarters in New York, at the Department of Peacekeeping Operations.

Jolevski’s host, reports the MoD, was Hervé Ladsous, UN Undersecretary and the Head of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations.

“At the meeting, Minister Zoran Jolevski informed Mr Ladsous that the Ministry of Defense is seriously considering increasing the ARM participation in peacekeeping operations and contributing more to world peace. Ladsous warmly welcomed this initiative and offered all the facilities of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations of the United Nations to help the Macedonian Army and the Defense Ministry in planning, decision making and preparations for the deployment of Macedonian troops in existing peacekeeping UN missions”, reads the statement by the Ministry of Defence.

Jolevski exchanged some of his ideas about regional initiatives in the area of peacekeeping operation which received strong support from Ladsous.

“Minister Jolevski recently stated that Macedonia from September will host the headquarters of the Balkan Medical Forces, and that is a candidate for a seat at HQ SEEBRIG, the Southeast Europe Brigade. Both interlocutors ended the meeting with the conclusion that the ideas presented have serious potential to further improve future cooperation”, adds the MoD.
