This is the first time in 25 years of an independent Macedonia, an elected or appointed person has failed to appear, and without giving a explanation to Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia, said the President of the Commission for Political System and Inter-Ethnic Relations, Vlatko Gjorchev after today’s session was postponed, as they were meant to examine the six-month report on the work of the Special Prosecutor Katica Janeva.
Djorchev said that Katica Janeva was duly summoned to today’s session, but she failed to appear, she did not submit a notification regarding her absence, which he interpreted as disrespectful conduct towards Parliament, the Constitution and the laws.
“Her absence shows her complete disregard for the institutions and the Parliament as the home of legislature. This is a violation of the Constitution. Ms Janeva has put herself above the Constitution and Parliament, even the President gives an annual report, and the Prime Minister appears for parliamentary questions once a month”, said Gjorchev.
Immediately after Gjorchev spoke at the press conference, Vice-Speaker Renata Treneska-Deskoska gave the media a statement where she said that today’s theater is another confirmation that the VMRO-DPMNE and its president Nikola Gruevski are afraid to face their crimes.
“Since the establishment of the Special Prosecutor’s Office, the VMRO-DPMNE has done everything possible to obstruct and interfere with the work of this prosecution. Obviously the announcement of the first charges in the report by the SPP created panic among the VMRO-DPMNE and the behavior by the Committee Chairman Vladimir Gjorchev, confirms that panic”, said Deskoska.
When asked whether Janeva must appear before the Committee and explain her report, Deskoska said that they will explain their position more clearly tomorrow.
