The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Gjorge Ivanov, will pay a working visit to the United States today, on the occasion of the 73rd session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, the President’s Office has announced.
Ivanov will address the general debate of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly on September 27, entitled “Making the United Nations relevant to all people: Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Peaceful, Equitable and Sustainable Societies”.
Within the framework of the UN General Assembly, Ivanov will meet with UN Secretary General António Guterres as well as other bilateral meetings with heads of state and government, participants of the General Assembly.
Ivanov is scheduled to attend this high-level event which is to make a global call for action on the world’s drug problem, chaired by US President Donald Trump and UN Secretary General Guterres. The Macedonian President will attend the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit 2018, a high-level plenary meeting dedicated to global peace, marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of the former South African leader.
President Ivanov will meet with representatives of the Macedonian community in New Jersey.
As part of his working visit to the United States, Ivanov will be presented with the “Global Statesman Award” in Detroit, the highest recognition given by the United Macedonian Diaspora. In Detroit, President Ivanov will hold a lecture at the Mike Ilitch School of Business, which is part of the Wayne State University, and will also meet with the Macedonian church community in Detroit.
Maja Ivanova, the president’s wife, will attend the event with the first female participants at the 73rd General Assembly of the United Nations, organized by the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, as well as an event organized by the First Lady of the Republic of Turkey, Emine Erdoğan .
