Ivanov postpones his visit to Australia

-

The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Gjorge Ivanov has decided to postpone his visit to Australia, stated the President’s Cabinet for the state news agency MIA.

They indicated that the political situation in the country and tensions between the European Union and Turkey to terminate the agreement for migrants are the reasons why Ivanov postponed his trip to Australia. His cabinet said Ivanov was meant to meet with top officials in the country, representatives of the Australian Macedonian Parliamentary Friendship Group, as well as representatives from the Macedonian community.

Currently, Ivanov is in Azerbaijan on a two-day visit, where he is participating in the fifth Global Forum in Baku.

Ivanov’s absence from the country, at a time of tensions and an institutional blockade, was met with public criticism. SDSM accused Ivanov of playing a dangerous game with the security and stability of the country, because at a time when Macedonia is facing one of the biggest political and institutional crises, he decided to leave the country.
