Ivanov: Macedonia supports the democratically elected government of the Republic of Turkey

The Republic of Macedonia supports the democratically elected government of the Republic of Turkey, and we are currently holding a meeting which assesses the security issues of this situation, reported President Gjorgi Ivanov’s Cabinet.

“After receiving information about the attempted military coup in Turkey, the Army of the Republic of Macedonia undertook a series of measures and activities for the protection of the state border. The President of the Republic and the Head of the Crisis Management Centre are constantly receiving updates from groups who manage and prevent threats and risks. The Crisis Management Centre in Macedonia is monitoring the situation in all countries in the region facing security threats and countries dealing with the migrant and refugee crisis. The President is in constant contact with all security institutions in the country, with the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Army of the Republic of Macedonia”, reads the statement from President Ivanov’s Cabinet.

They went on to say that the Republic of Turkey, as a NATO member and a great friend and strategic partner of the Republic of Macedonia, President Ivanov supports the normalization of the situation in the Republic of Turkey and calls for all democratic institutions to be respected and hopes any kind of violence and bloodshed will be avoided.

The Macedonian President calls for everyone to be reasonable and calm and that political objectives should be achieved only through dialogue and in accordance with the will of the citizens and at elections.
