Italian authorities rescue immigrants from the ship “Ezadeen”

-

Italian Air Force implemented action to rescue hundreds of immigrants from the crewless merchant ship which was abandoned in the Mediterranean by traffickers. One of the immigrants from the ship “Ezadeen”, which travels under the flag of Sierra Leone, sent a message saying that the ship is moving towards the Italian coast and that there is no crew and no one to navigate it.

Air base in Southern Italy sent a helicopter, and the action includes the Coast Guard and a medical team. There are about 450 immigrants on the ship, which is currently 60 kilometers southeast from the coast.

Two days ago, Italian sailors intercepted the ship “Blue Sky M” sailing under the Moldovan flag and which was carrying at least 700 immigrants, most of them from Syria. The ship was previously abandoned by traffickers who were navigating it from Turkey to Greek waters. A great accident was avoided after six members of the Navy managed to go down to the ship from a helicopter and to take control over the ship. Among the immigrants, there were 60 children and two pregnant women, and most of them had hypothermia and fractures.
