IRI: Political instability in Macedonia is escalating

-

The political instability in Macedonia is escalating, and the trust in the state institutions is decreasing, says a report from a survey conducted on a national level done by the International Republican Institute (IRI), reports the “Voice of America”.

The pessimism surrounding the political crisis, it seems, is a challenge from the government’s behaviour in regards to the wiretapping scandal which was uncovered in 2015, say the researchers from the survey from IRI.

64 percent of the respondents expressed disapproval of President Gjorgi Ivanov’s decision to pardon officials involved in this crisis. 63 percent support the Special Prosecutor’s Office who investigate cases which arose from the wiretapping scandal.

The President of the IRI, Mark Green says that the results of the survey show the “critical need for the leaders in Macedonia to focus on the reforms which will help the democratic institutions get back the trust in the country”.

The survey was conducted on 1.104 adults, it took place in April of this year and was done face to face.
