In six days, 105 new cases of the measles reported

In the period from the 17th to the 23rd of May, a total of 105 new cases of the measles have been reported, of which 81% of those infected had not been vaccinated, the Institute for Public Health reported today.

From the total number of newly reported cases, 46 cases are from Skopje, while the remaining 59 are from nine other cities – Kicevo (17), Debar (8), Tetovo (8), Kumanovo (7), Shtip (7), Struga (6), Veles (4), Ohrid (1) and Negotino (1).

Over the past week, the highest number of cases (56) are people over the age of 30 years. According to the vaccine status, 81% of reported cases are people without vaccines, incomplete vaccines or with an unknown vaccine status.

In total, since the beginning of the epidemic in December 2018 as of May 23, 2019, 1,625 cases of the measles were registered in the country. The measles epidemic is across the entire territory of Macedonia.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, 14,541 children have been vaccinated in Skopje, while 12,707 children under the age of 14 have been vaccinated in the rest of the country. The total number of vaccinated people aged 14 years with the MRI vaccine since the start of the epidemic in the whole of the republic is 27,248.

From the beginning of the epidemic to date, 2,439 people have been additionally vaccinated in Centers for Public Health, of which more than 60% were health workers, students and students in secondary medical schools, the rest are contacts and persons over 14 years of age.
