Hoyt Yee: We expect from the new government cooperation, reforms, and a solution to the name dispute with Greece

-

We expect the new government to be a partner of the international community, with the European Union and with the USA, with countries – longstanding partners of Macedonia in the direction of implementing the urgent reforms in order for the country to move forward. It has to solve its problems with its neighbours, including Greece”, said the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian. Affairs, Brian Hoyt Yee, in an interview for the Bosnian editor’s desk of “Voice of America.”

“I’m happy that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Nikos Kotzias, has given a hand of friendship to the other side in Macedonia, expressing a readiness of meetings and talks in the direction towards the promotion of the relations between these two countries, that we hope will bring to agreements that will unblock the road for Macedonia towards the Euro-Atlantic integrations”, said Hoyt Yee.

The American diplomat sees the formation of the new government in Macedonia, led by Zoran Zaev,  as a very positive step and a positive example in the region.

“The decision by President Gjorge Ivanov to grant the mandate to Zoran Zaev is an indicator that the democracy in Macedonia is resilient and enduring. Apart from the heavy moments, it had, such as the situation at the Parliament in April which was surpassed, and the delays and the uncertainty, now there is a government and that is a very positive step. Also, this is a positive example for the other part of the region where the hardships and political crisis can be surpassed with a political will”, said the US Department’s High Representative.

In the interview, he said that US politics towards the Balkans remains unchanged because it is based on American interests in a region that is moving forward towards integration in Europe and its institutions towards a better climate of investments from European and American businesses and generally – a better life for the citizens.”
