Howitt to “Meta”: Urgent meeting in Brussels on Ivanov’s decision on amnesty and pardon

-

The violation of the Przhino Agreement will have serious consequences, said today MEP Richard Howitt to “Meta” who was instrumental in brokering the Przino Agreement.

“Politicians in Brussels are urgently studying and consulting on all the latest developments in Skopje and can only warn of the very serious consequences if any party or individual is deemed to be responsible for breaking the Prhzino Agreement”, said the MEP, who along with other MEPs Ivo Vajgl and Eduard Kukan, as well as EU Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn who were all mediators in the political talks on resolving the political crisis.

Howitt recalled that Ivanov, following the decision of the Constitutional Court to authorize the President to pardon people for electoral crime, pedophilia and drug trafficking, assured the public that he would never take such steps.

“I note President Ivanov previously gave assurances that no amnesties would be given in relation to political wrong-doing and that he would respect the Przhino Agreement, which includes full cross-party support for the independence of the Special Prosecutor”, said Richard Howitt MEP, parliamentary mediator for the Socialist and Democrat Group of MEPs.
