Hahn hints unblocking name dispute resolution

-

European Commissioner for Regional Policy to the European Union, Johannes Hahn, today, after the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs, Fatmir Besimi, in Brussels, when asked by the reporters, commented on the process of resolving the name dispute with Greece.

– We are currently discussing how to find a solution that suits each country. We started talking about it, that’s all I can say at the moment, but I would like to assure you that the situation is being unblocked in all countries, not just in yours. Unanimity is required in the Council and we should convince all countries in order to achieve it – said Hahn.

Commenting the opposition’s boycott of the Assembly, the Commissioner invited the political parties to a dialogue.

– I would like to ask the political parties to have a political dialogue within the Assembly, not outside of it. I would like to see the opposition to return to the Assembly, and if I can somehow contribute, I will. I intend to visit Macedonia in January to talk to all political parties in order a progress to be achieved – said Hahn.

Deputy Prime Minister Besimi said that political dialogue should contribute to European integration provided that the opposition would return to the Assembly for an open political dialogue.

– It is important that we should also make efforts to resolve outstanding issues with neighbors and interethnic relations – stated Besimi.
