Hahn: The SEC has enough time to prepare the electoral roll

-

Undoubtedly there should be elections in Macedonia and the State Election Commission has to prepare the electoral roll, because now they should have enough time, said European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn in Durres, Albania, where he participated in the ministerial conference for the Western Balkans.

The Commissioner said that if the problems of the voters list previously been the cause of international pressure to postpone the election date, now, according to him, there is no indication that the preparation of the list can not be done on time.

“There should be elections. Relevant and responsible authorities, in particular the State Election Commission are doing everything in their power to prepare the voter list which is not disputed by anybody. I have no indication that this is not possible. That was why there was international pressure to postpone the elections, but now there should have enough time to do everything necessary. We have agreement from June / July, and the final point in this agreement was elections, to be fair, and internationally recognized elections that will be the base line for the further development of the country especially when it comes to Euro-Atlantic integration”, said Hahn.

The elections on June 5 were the topic of conversation between Commissioner Hahn and the Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki on the sidelines of the conference, which concluded that they are the best way for Macedonia to regain the agenda and begin negotiations.
