Hahn after meeting with Xhaferi: The focus should now be on forming a new government

-

The newly elected Parliament Speaker, Talat Xhaferi, met with European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, during his official visit to Brussels.

Michael Karnitschnig, Hahn’s chief of staff on his Twitter account stated that Hahn said violence in Parliament is unacceptable and we now need to work on forming a new government.

“Johannes Hahn, with the new Speaker of Parliament of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Xhaferi: Violence is completely unacceptable. The Parliament must be able to do its job, reach out to all citizens. The focus now should be on forming a government”, wrote Karnitschnig on “Twitter”.

After the meeting, Hahn’s cabinet stated that Parliament must be allowed to work unhindered and that all MPs, including the opposition, are expected to play a constructive rather than obstructive role, and all actors must refrain from provocative statements and actions.

“Parliament must be the forum to debate the serious challenges facing the country and to provide the necessary assurances about the way forward, in the interest of all citizens and communities. Finally, Commissioner Hahn called for the focus to now be on the next steps of the process of government formation, respecting the parliamentary majority and acting in line with the Constitution and democratic principles”, the statement said.

Hahn warned that any repetition of events like the attack on MPs last Thursday, will seriously jeopardize the European perspective of the country.
