Greeks nervous: Stoltenberg said “Macedonia” four times

-

Referring to Macedonia under its constitutional name by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg caused reactions in Greece.

At the joint meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs and EU defense, Greek officials reacted once Stoltenberg began referring to us as “Macedonia”.

Greece plans to send a protest note from the permanent representative of Greece to NATO to the Secretary General to respond to this action of Stoltenberg and violation of their request Macedonia to be constantly named under the interim reference.

Greek newspaper “Proto Thema” noted that Stoltenberg referred to us as “Macedonia”, four times and did so openly and without any problem.

“A few days after the embrace and dance with Foreign Minister Nikos Kodzias, singing “We are the world”, the Secretary General referred to Skopje as Macedonia even four times,” notes the newspaper, recalling the party in Antalya of foreign ministers of member states of NATO, where Kodzias and Minister Nikola Popovski held a meeting.

The statements caused great interest in Greek media which condemn the fact that the Secretary General, saying that violence in Macedonia should be avoided, forgot to refer to us as FYROM and dared to use the constitutional name.
