After yesterday’s summit in Brussels, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras headed towards Strasbourg, where he addressed the European Parliament and explain the position of his country.
Tsipras said that his country had become “a laboratory for the austerity measures.”
– Rescue plan is in force for five years. In no other country the austerity program lasted so long – he reminded.
Tsipras asked for sustainable and permanent change. The proposals of Greece insist on creating jobs, reducing unemployment, support for enterprises, stimulate trade and exchanges and restore economic growth. He added that, in the coming days, these proposals will be submitted as required by the deadline. The Greek PM said his government offers “real reforms” that will end clientelism and corruption of previous governments.
– We want to fight the oligarchy and cartels, fiscal evasion and corruption, to modernize the country. These are priorities for us and we expect our partners to embrace and support. Europe is at an historic crossroads and a European solution to this European problem is needed – he said.
