Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos, sent a strong message to Macedonia that they must abide to European principles and laws if it wants to join the European family.
In Sofia after meeting his Bulgarian counterpart Rosen Plevneliev, just days before the arrival of the Macedonian Foreign Minister, Nikola Popovski in Athens, Pavlopoulos indirectly criticized the behaviour of the Macedonian government, commenting that if our country wants to join the EU, then Macedonia will have to play by European rules, and to forget about the idea of taking Greek history.
“To have a European perspective, you need to prove that you can follow the principles and values of Europe. Europe is a global vision, a vision of the world. If you want to have a European perspective, you must respect the principles of European institutional and political rights, international law as a whole, and in particular the European Agreement on Human Rights. Therefore FYROM say that it has a European perspective and a NATO perspective. However, it must start to respect democracy and human rights”, stated President Pavlopoulos.
