-

Greece supports Macedonia’s bid to join the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative, reported the Macedonian Information Agency (MIA).

“Greek Deputy Foreign Minister George Karahalios, in a letter to the European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn and Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Crețu, announced Greece’s intention to support FYROM’s bid in the framework of the European Union Strategy for the Adriatic (EUSAIR)”, said the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.

The Greek MFA reminded that the initiative includes Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and cooperation is realized through four pillars that refer to the “Blue Growth Initiative”,ie the growth in marine and maritime sectors, connection, such as transport, energy, environment and tourism.

Greek support for Macedonia’s bid for the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative was agreed upon and announced at the meeting between Zoran Zaev and Alexis Tsipras in Davos, as one of the two concessions made by Athens after Macedonia renamed the airport and the motorway.
