Government will consider opposition’s proposal on the Law on Public Prosecution

-

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev stressed that VMRO-DPMNE’s proposal for the Law on Public Prosecution will be discussed by the working groups. He said that it was the first time he hears about the proposal and that he doesn’t want to negotiate this subject via the media. The solution for the establishment of the Prosecutor’s Office for High Corruption should be analyzed in detail, said Zaev.

On the other hand, the political parties should not be allowed to change prosecutors whenever they feel like it.

-The attacks on the 27th of April and many others instances, and that is one more reason not to send a message that the politicians can make secret agreements wherever they think they can and where it is simply inadmissible – stressed Zaev.

Prime Minister’s reaction arrives after today’s notice from Antonio Miloshoski that VMRO_DPMNE has submitted a proposal regarding the draft law on the General Public Prosecutor’s Office.

-We think that the current standard model should be sustained and the Prosecutor’s Office for Crime and High Corruption to remain as one, undivided Prosecution, without any hybrid solutions – said Antonio Miloshoski.

At the same time, the opposition VMRO-DPMNE demand that the taking over SPO’s authorizations by the other Prosecutor’s Offce to be regulated by law, that will include the methodology of selecting the new prosecutor for organized crime, where the opposition, the Parliament, and the Committee for Appointments and Elections will play major roles.

VMRO-DPMNE demands that the opposition should propose one person out of those that will run for that position. Also, other persons from the academic world can also be nominated, VMRO-DPMNE says.
