A banner, symbolically twisted into a crown and made from a bicycle, that read, “Koce give us back streets”, was left outside the main gate of the administrative building of the City of Skopje, after the protest for Against Traffic accidents in the capital, was held today.
Hundreds of people gathered at the fountain in the city park in Skopje, and by the crossroads where the young david , the last victim lost his life, lay down their bicycles in protest.
Many worried parents were present with their strollers, bicycles, worried about the safety of their loved ones. Citizens who marched the so-called “march of silence” walked in silence in tribute to victims of traffic accidents.
“It is not for one, but for fifteenth victims. In the last six months there have been 66 victims in Skopje and the surrounding area alone. Spurred by the death of David, as well as all the previous accidents, we would like to point out the responsibility to the Mayor of Skopje, Koce. He is directly responsible for the infrastructure and he needs to care for the safety of everyone on the road . The roads have turned into run ways, which cars fly down the streets and endanger the health and lives of the citizens of Skopje. Anytime you are out on the street, whether as a pedestrian, cyclist or as a mother of a child with a pushchair are not safe. We ask Koce Trajanovski to urgently take responsibility and care for all citizens of Skopje. The infrastructure of the city needs to be safe for everyone who uses the streets of Skopje”, said activist Ognjen Janevski, who addressed the citizens present.
Participants of the protest sent a message to the mayor stating that if he could not perform his role as Mayor, the father of the city, to withdraw, so the citizens can exercise their rights.
Citizens in front of the administrative building of the City of Skopje headed again to the crossroads where young David lost his life, some of them lay flowers, others lit candles to commemorate the victims.
