President Gjorge Ivanov from the memorial complex in Pelince celebrated the national holiday Ilinden, the first meeting of the Anti-fascist Assembly for the National Liberation of Macedonia (ASNOM) and said that history has shown that whenever we are divided, we are enslaved, and whenever we are united, we are free.
He noted that the world finds itself again in a period of major transformation and that things do not depend on us but that there are things that depend on us alone.
“Each state is sovereign as long as it controls its territory. We realized that if we first do not help ourselves, nobody will help us. Therefore, instead of being reactive, we decided to be proactive”, said Ivanov.
The President also noted the successful attempts in dealing with security threats of violent extremism and terrorism and said that in such moments we should be cohesive and united.
Speaking about the political crisis, he welcomed the agreement and said that national interests should be put above all personal interests. He called on political parties to refrain from not recognizing the election results, the media not to spread panic, fear and damaging sensationalism, civil societies and intellectuals not to demonize opponents and the Euro-Atlantic partners not to use the consequences of the blockade as the reason for new blockades.
