The Fact-checkers Legal Support Initiative – FLSI offers legal and financial support for fact checkers that are sued but are not financially strong enough to provide appropriate legal protection.
FLSI is a collaboration between three organizations. The Media Legal Defence Initiative (MLDI), the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press (RCFP) , and the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN).
The reason behind this initiative are the pressures on people that are working on fact checking.
“Fact-checkers around the world are under threat. We help fact-checkers with legal defence, so they can keep doing their important work. The Fact-checkers Legal Support Initiative (FLSI) connects fact-checkers with pro bono lawyers, helps to pay legal fees, and produces guides on legal and non-legal issues fact-checkers need to know.”
