Five years since the Lake Smilkovsko massacre

-

It has been exactly five years since the massacre at Smilkovsko Lake, where four teenagers from the neighbourhood of Radisani were gunned down with another individual from the village of Cresevo.

On Good Friday, of 2012, four friends, between the ages of 18-21 were murdered. Filip Slavkovski, Aleksandar Nakevski, Cventancho Acovski and Kire Trpkovski and a 45 year-old man, Borce Stevkovski were among the dead.

The murders occurred between 19:30 – 22:30, when the bodies were discovered. The autopsies showed that the boys were shot with three different types of firearms, as they found three different types of ammunition at the scene, which suggests that there was more than one perpetrator.

For the multiples murders, the “Monster” case led to life sentences for Alil Demiri, Afrim Ismailovic, Agim Ismailovic, Fejzi Aziri, Haki Aziri and Sami Ljuta. Only the fifth suspect, Sejdi Rami was acquitted due to “lack of evidence to establish a guilty verdict.”
the case is still awaiting the extradition of prime suspects Afrim Demiri and Agim Ismailovic from Kosovo, who were convicted in ‘absentia’.

The defense argued that the men are innocent and there is not enough evidence to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, and have requested that the case be taken over by the Special Prosecutor’s Office (SPO).

Regarding this case in particular, the opposition claimed that among the wire tapped recordings, there are conversations which were never released. The material was handed over to the SPO.

Some of the parents of the murdered boys have also publicly expressed their doubts that the men convicted are the real perpetrators of the massacre.
