System of evaluation of teachers based on penalties will never create loyal representatives and will a way to circumvent it will be always sought for. Such a system is not objective and there is a possibility for subjective evaluation of teachers, said Martin Romer, president of the European Trade Union of Education regarding the general strike of SONK.
Today, he met with representatives of SONK and Minister of Education Abdilakjin Ademi and Minister of Labor and Social Policy Dime Spasov to improve the negotiations between the Government and SONK.
– I fully support the strike and I came here to see if we can find room for all concerned parties to sit down at the negotiating table. It is important to maintain social dialogue, and that was the first message I conveyed to the ministers at the meetings this morning – said Romer.
According to Romer, some of the requirements of SONK are of paramount importance and not against the method of evaluation, but the results and consequences of this model are questioned.
– Macedonia has developed a strange pattern of evaluation, which provides penalizing teachers. I can say that it is not a good invention because Macedonian teachers have to pay fines. This is totally unacceptable. At the international level, you cannot find evidence that penalties works and education through penalties doesn’t function because it is not a battleground – says Romer.
He said that in Europe there is no case of substitute teachers when teachers are on strike.
– In Europe there is no case of bringing substitute teachers in the event of a strike. The right to strike can be expressed in many ways, but bringing substitute teachers is not appropriate for the legitimate right to strike – says Romer.
