European Council’s session about the start of Macedonia’s EU accession negotiations was postponed

The members of the European Council held a video conference and decided to postpone the European Council’s meeting that was scheduled for 26th and 27th of March inform world media. The reason for postponement was the current situation with the coronavirus. At this Council’s meeting, the decision for starting Macedonia’s EU accession negotiations was supposed to be made. Apart from postponing the planned session for a later date, so far there is no actual date when that might happen.

During today’s press conference, the European Council discussed the limiting of coronavirus spread, securing medical equipment, promoting research and dealing with the social-economic consequences. The member countries and the institutions will continue to monitor the situation on all levels. Regarding the coronavirus situation, the European Council will also hold a video conference next week. Its members confirmed that it is necessary to work together in order to deal with the crisis and its consequences. The citizens’ health is of top priority.
