“EurActiv” assesses: European parties fuel the fire in Macedonia

-

Macedonian crisis deepens, and the two biggest European political families – the center-right European People’s Party (EPP) and the Party of European Socialists (PES), add fuel to the fire and fueling antagonism between Macedonian parties, assesses portal “EurActiv“.

The analysis of the portal states that the two largest political forces in the EU are fully desynchronized, given that “EPP desperately supports the discredited rule of Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, while PES sends leaders in Skopje to collect points from the impasse in which the country is stuck.”

According to “EurActiv”, observers are equally pessimistic about the scenario that will buy Gruevski more time in the Government or even less probable alternative, leader of the Social Democrats Zoran Zaev to take over power. Western diplomats are pushing in the direction of forming a national unity government in which both parties will participate until early elections are held.

The portal states that Western diplomats are trying to resolve the crisis, but that EPP and PES wage their own wars.
