EU threatens Russia with new sanctions

-

Heads of state and the governments of the 27 EU Member States today announced tightening of sanctions if Russia doesn’t condemn the actions of pro-Russian forces and begin to implement the agreement of Minsk.

“We have evidence of continuous and increasingly intense Russian support of separatists, which emphasizes the responsibility of Russia,” reads the joint statement, which condemned artillery attacks on pro-Russian forces in the seaside town Mariupol, in which at least 30 people were killed.

Leaders have instructed their foreign ministers at the emergency meeting of the foreign policy of the EU Council on Thursday to discuss necessary actions, especially the new restrictive measures, in order for the agreement of Minsk to be implemented.

EU Council will give the final word on sanctions on the informal summit in Brussels, scheduled for next month.
