EU: Politicians to immediately find a durable solution

-

This morning, European Commission reacted on the occasion of yesterday’s protests in front of the Government in Skopje, in which several demonstrators were injured and detained and several policemen were injured as well.

European Commission spokeswoman Maja Kocijanchik said that the European Union reiterates its deep concern about the situation in the country, as recently stated in the conclusions of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the EU.

– EU regrets the injuries suffered by protesters and security forces. As a general principle, the Commission reiterates the crucial importance of freedom of association and peaceful protest as stated in the European Convention on Human Rights. Those must be the core values of a functioning democracy. We reiterate the need to avoid disproportionate use of force by police. EU would like to remind that the political actors are expected to take immediate actions to find durable solution to the political crisis, including restarting the appropriate political dialogue and confidence in the institutions through constructive engagement.”
