“Eco guerrilla” movement welcomed the decision for setting up filters on the biggest polluter “Jugohrom”. Due to suspicion and possibly manipulating the implementation of this project, the movement requests to better familiarize with the program that is to be implemented in order to prevent further pollution and poisoning the air. Otherwise, say the movement, they will consider that it is still a rumor and buying time to defocus public and citizens of the problem with the enormous air pollution.
– Also, besides measuring the quantities of PM10, we ask measurement of PM2,5, small particles that are retained in the lungs, to be carried out, as it is done in Skopje, and seriously engagement of the Environmental Inspectorate in the measuring pollution and setting the filters in “Jugohrom” – says Arijanit Xhaferi, president of “Eco guerrilla” association.
“Jugohrom” this weekend announced that, by the end of the year, filter stations will be built on the plant. Three purification stations, where dust from exhaust gases would be retained, are to be built. The level of concentration of PM10 particles in the smoke emitted by the stacks will be minimum 10 micrograms per cubic meter.
“Jugohrom” repeatedly failed to comply with deadlines for setting up filters set by the Government.
