According to the latest report, “Doing Business” (Doing Business) of the World Bank, Macedonia is in 12th place out of 189 economies in the world.
In the area of starting a business, the country ranks 2nd , according to the report, this is due to the simplification of procedures through internet registration.
In the category of paying taxes, Macedonia is in 7th place.
Respected international weekly “The Economist” recently gave serious remarks regarding the ranking of countries in the World Banks report “Doing Business”, expressing concern about certain shortcomings.
The weekly writes that many countries high on the list, or have been growing fast up the ranks of “Doing Business”, are essentially poor.
To get a more favourable position on the list, these countries are prone to foreign direct investment or assistance, which, if it becomes policy objective of the government it is not a reliable way of keeping the national economy afloat.
Also, they did not take into account of important elements of the business climate, such as security, corruption, market size, financial stability, infrastructure and knowledge.
