Due to COVID-19 crisis, public transportation in Skopje last year with 30 million passengers less

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a drop of the number of passengers that used the public transportation in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, reaching a historic low. Last year, “JSP Skopje” (Public Enterprise for Transportation) buses and the buses of the private transportation companies transported 27.709.556 passengers, which is almost 30 million passengers less compared to 2019. In the year before the COVID-19 outbreak, public transportation in Skopje had been used by over 57.2 million passengers.

JSP Skopje explained for Meta.mk that it is planning to increase the interest in the use of public transportation in Skopjeth is year with two measures. In 2001, the purchase of 10 mini-busses is planned. Also, during the forthcoming period, the passengers will have get a fully functional  JSP-Skopje’s mobile application that will allow the electronic purchase and validation of tickets in buses and other discounts.
