The World Summit Award (WSA) is a global initiative that aims to select and promote the world’s best digital content and innovative applications within and in cooperation with the World Summit on the Information Society of the United Nations.

Annually they award five projects in eight different categories, i.e. a total of 40 prizes are awarded. Categories are in: e-Business and Commerce, e-Media and Journalism, e-Learning and Science, e-Government and Open Data, e-Culture and Tourism, e-Entertainment and Games, e-Health and Environment and e-Inclusion and Empowerment.

Prizes are awarded by a jury of international experts which met this year in Baku, Azerbaijan.

In the category of e-Government and Open Data, Lithuania, Austria, France, Ireland and Mexico are the countries which received prizes.

For E-Health and the Environment, prizes were awarded to Bangladesh, Mexico, Bulgaria, New Zealand and Brazil.

In the category of e-Learning and Science, the best countries were Lithuania, Namibia, Spain, Kuwait and Ireland.

E-entertainment and lifestyle were awarded to Mexico, Ireland, UK, Sri Lanka and Argentina.

In the category of e-Culture and Tourism, Estonia, Austria, South America, Great Britain and Germany were awarded.

E-Media and Journalism, Senegal, the Philippines, Bulgaria, Great Britain and Bosnia and Herzegovina received awards.

Austria, New Zealand, Singapore, Iceland and Estonia were the winners in the category of e-Business and Commerce.

In the last category, e-Inclusion and Empowerment, the best were Spain, Mexico, New Zealand, Indonesia and Germany.

Winners will be invited to present their innovative products to the Global Congress of the World Summit, which will be held in Shenzhen, China, in late January or early February of 2016.
