While working groups negotiate, VMRO count their members and have been campaiging

-

In recent days local committees from VMRO-DPMNE have been working on their membership, making lists of active members, passive members, and supporters who have given up on them, ‘Meta’ has discovered. This activity was planned in anticipation of parliamentary elections, scheduled for April 2016, which the ruling party has taken seriously  into account and is already campaigning.

Their teams go door to door and ask why members have given up on the party and how they can help.

VMRO-DPMNE has unofficially stated that this is the standard method for updating their members. Officially, none of the senior management would comment on the subject.

These door to door political surveys are happening in other cities around the country.

The correspondent from “Meta” in Stip has reported that local committees from VMRO-DPMNE have organized campaigners to start updating membership lists. Each individual member is obliged to contact neighbours and members, and tasks are divided according to place of residence.

The party organises meetings face to face with members who they believe have drifted from their ideology, where they assure voters with their campaign.

This way they get a precise number of voters. It is alleged that, Directors from Institutes and businesses who are party affiliated are expected, if necessary, to provide information regarding employees, and their intentions on voting.

Acting coordinator of VMRO-DPMNE in Stip, Nikola Micevski via telephone told us that meetings with members and the updating of voting lists are “standard practice”.

“If necessary, we arrange visits to our members and maintain regular party meetings. Working with members and membership never ceases, but it intensifies before elections”, Micevski said.

In Bitola, the local committee of VMRO are in motion as well. Our correspondent reports that in this city membership is also being counted and respected supporters are tasked with attracting new and undecided voters.

Members of the ruling party said that from September the 1st they mobilized each council committee  to provide space which will act as party headquarters in every neighbourhood. Smaller organizations of local committees,  go door to door to remind members and supporters that they are preparing for elections and that the party counting on them for their support. The “Hardest” task allegedly is given to former officials of the party, MPs and councillors where their credibility is out to the test when they have the task of mobilizing and attracting new and undecided citizens to vote.

“The atmosphere begins to heat up here. Local committees have a the responsibility to record membership and, of course, make the most of itself to attract new members. We have already made a hierarchical strategy for going door-to-door”, say members of the ruling party in Bitola.

A year ago, the number of membership in the municipal committee in Bitola was approximately 14,000. Now, the leader of VMRO-DPMNE in Bitola, Borce Dimitrov said that the party operate continuously and the number of members increases from election to election.

“The party is functioning normally. The number of members is growing and now has more than 15,000 active members”, Dimitrov.

About a year ago, the municipal committee of VMRO-DPMNE in Tetovo completed re-registration of active and passive members of the party. According to party sources, the updating of members lasted about 20 days, and a large number of party membership was issued

SDSM said they have an accurate number regarding their membership, which stands at about 70,000 people.

“Unlike VMRO-DPMNE, we do not make lists of citizens and members of the party”, said Peter Shilegov, SDSM spokesman for ‘Meta’.
