“The Macedonia I represent, is a more mature Macedonia. We do not need hundreds of monuments on Skopje Square to be proud Macedonians. This Macedonia approaches its neighbours without prejudice and fear”, said Macedonian Foreign Minister, Nikola Dimitrov in an interview with the regional television “H1”.
Regarding the name dispute, Dimitrov said that during his recent visit to Athens, progress was made to the confidence building measures. He said that the name dispute has lasted for such a long time and can not be solved overnight, but the task of the new Government is to create a suitable context as the basis for further steps.
The Macedonian Foreign Minister pointed out that this process will not be easy, especially after April the 27th, when, as he says, police followed party orders, and not the Constitution or Parliament.
He emphasized that special success was made, as the citizens of Macedonia managed to unite regardless of ethnicity.
When asked how he views the geopolitical games in the Balkans and Russia’s influence in Macedonia which has been discussed a lot in recent months, Dimitrov said that it is obvious that geopolitics has returned to some extent to the Balkans, but it is crucial for the resistance of one country against foreign influence, to have strong institutions and society.
