Dimitrov revokes the confidentiality of information regarding business trips made by diplomats

-

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Dimitrov, has issued a resolution revoking the confidentiality of all documents related to the Foreign Minister’s business trips and for all employees of the Foreign Ministry, announced the MFA today.

This means that any documents related to business trips by employees from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will again become public information meaning that the media and the public will have access to them.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia would like to inform the media and the Macedonian public that in the spirit of transparency and accountability to all citizens, the decision by the Minister of Foreign Affairs which was made on June 12th, 2017, revokes the previous decision of the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs from February 14th, 2017. This means all classified documents relating to trips by the Minister and all employees of the Ministry, as well as all business trips of individuals in delegations or accompanied by one, are now open to the public”, reads the statement.

The MFA said that Dimitrov’s decision was “a product of the dedicated commitment by the Ministry for full transparency before the citizens and the general Macedonian public and a product of accountability in the Ministry’s work and the way of spending taxpayers’ money without jeopardizing the sensitivity or safety their work.”
