Deputy Prime Minister of European Affairs Osmani informs that the EU has reached a consensus and Macedonia will receive a starting date for the accession negotiations

I want to inform you about an extremely positive news that arrived late last night from Brussels. The Council of Permanent representatives (Coreper) has reached a consensus about a decision to start the accession negotiations with Republic of North Macedonia, unconditionally. We expect this to be confirmed, and on the 24th of March, on part of the European ministers and the ministers of foreign affairs, the Summit of Prime Ministers that is expected to occur on the 26th and 27th of March, announced the Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Bujar Osmani during a press conference at the government.

He also said that the government had a coordination with the EU regarding the COVID-19, and have agreed, Macedonia as a candidate to be a part of the EU’s Solidarity Fund so it can use the assets to fight the coronavirus.

Osmani also named the first measures that were sent to the were presented to the European Commission on behalf of the EU Commissioner, Oliver Varhelyi.

In the end, Osmani informed about Norway’s decision to approve 3.2 million euros in urgent realization through the UNOPS program for North Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, for acquiring medical equipment, materials and assets.
