COVID-19 patients go to hospital too late, “8-mi Septemvri” hospital wages war with death everyday

-

North Macedonia is still in a critical phase of the coronavirus spread as every day it registers numbers of newly infected always above one hundred. This situation has been ongoing for the past two months, and since the 3rd of June, almost every day, Macedonia has been registering above 100 new cases. The peak was registered on the 13th of June with 196 new cases. This has caused the hospitals to be overflown with new patients and the situation, which during the three months of the pandemic seemed easy to manage, is now evidently far more difficult, writes Portalb.mk

With the growth of the numbers of newly hospitalized patients, the number of patients who died due to the COVID-19 disease also increased. Only during the first 8 days of June, 57 patients have died, while the record was registered on the 2nd of July, when 15 people lost their lives.

Most of these patients were hospitalized in the “8-mi Septemvri” (8th of September) Skopje City General Hospital (, where the patients pass away almost every day. The most difficult day for the hospital was the 2nd of July, when 9 patients died there.

Portalb reached out to the hospital’s director, Hristijan Kostov, who said that the reason for the rise of the death toll at the hospital was because most of the patients go to the hospital either when it is too late or when their condition has worsened so much that they are beyond any help.
