The majority of the council at the Municipality of Kochani has restored the name of one of the central streets. For several decades, the street was named after the president of the former Social Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito. Councilors from the SDSM coalition changed the name of the street to “Marshal Tito” with the support of an independent councilor. The councilor from VMRO-DPMNE left the session when voting on the proposal began.
SDSM Councilor Blagoj Sitnovski said that he holds nothing against another street in Kochani receiving the name “VMRO”, however we should not forget the man from our fifty year old history, who helped lay the foundations of the Republic of Macedonia.
The name of the street “Marshal Tito” was changed to “VMRO” along with 18 streets in Kochani, in 2014. This was at a time when the majority of the council was led by VMRO-DPMNE.
