Civil Sociey Organizations to Hahn: We need to establish a new Court Council to ensure impartiality

-

Civil society organizations at the meeting with European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, explained their views on how to resolve the political crisis.

Representatives from various NGOs said it was necessary to establish an independent judicial department to process the cases of the Special Public Prosecutor’s Office (SPO), but for this to be feasible, they believe it is necessary to completely dissolve the Council of the Court and to re-elect the Council to ensure impartiality.

At the meeting, representatives also requested more direct communication with the EU, to avoid euphemism and to be able to directly locate responsibility.

Civil society organizations asked in the coming negotiations, if any, in the near future, to be included, however, not directly. As presented in some of the media, they want to be involved in the process of monitoring, evaluating and negotiating.

Commissioner Hahn at the meeting repeated his recommendations from yesterday, that the elections in December, which, he said, are a good step, but that they are only the beginning of the process of resolving the crisis.

Hahn said it was necessary to implement the urgent reform priorities for the country to return to the path to Europe.

The Commissioner thanked the representatives from the civil sector for their contribution.
