To prevent air pollution, the City of Skopje is urging citizens to use public transport, and not to use their vehicles unless necessary. Also, instead of one person per car, the public should consider travelling together in vehicles, to avoid congestion.
The City of Skopje is appealing to the public to reduce their movement outdoors, and only travel if necessary. Also certain categories of the population, such as young children, pregnant women, the chronically ill and elderly people should stay off the street. A statement released by the City of Skopje, also recommends that citizens should avoid opening windows to their homes.
Today all measuring stations from the Ministry of Environment showed an increased presence of carcinogenic particles PM10 and PM2.5. Air pollution is at its highest in the evening. Last night at 21:00 pm, the measuring station in Lisice showed 600 micrograms of particles per cubic metre, which is 12 times more than the allowed 50 micrograms. Then, at 23:00 pm, in Gazi Baba and Karpos measuring stations showed 350 micrograms of particles per cubic metre.
