Mitko Chavkov, Director of the Public Safety Bureau, held a press conference this afternoon and gave his view on yesterday’s events in Parliament. He complained that he hadn’t been informed that a Parliament Speaker was going to be declared, and said that the police had no information or reports of any possible incidents. He stressed that they would need time to assess why those who entered Parliament, picked 18:00 pm, as protests are held on a daily basis at 18:00 pm in front of Parliament.
“Unfortunately, yesterday in Parliament after the parliamentary session, several incidents occurred which provoked anger and outrage among citizens. When I say that there were no complaints made to the police, I mean that no one from Parliament called to report that there will be an attempt to name a new Speaker. As for those who planned this scenario, what they were thinking I cannot comment, but it is obvious that the way everything was conducted, has increased security risks and caused the immediate reaction of those present outside Parliament. It will take time and further analysis to determine why those behind the scenario decided to act just after 18:00 pm, knowing that at that time, daily protests are held in front of the Parliament building”, said Chavkov.
