CEMM: The media should not be used to create tensions

-

The Council on Media Ethics (CEMM) with great concern has reacted to the frequent cases of the abuse of certain media outlets, especially in the context of the current political situation. The increase of speculation, propagandism and untruths could intensify tensions and lead to potential unrest in society.

CEMM added that they have been responding to these cases for quite some time now, but in recent days they have increased to worrying levels.

“Whats particularly worrisome is the way the media informs and reports the news with one-sided information and information that can fuel fears of possible civil unrest, including calls for the mobilization of citizens to defend the interests of certain political parties”, said a statement from the Council on Media Ethics.

They reminded the media not to allow to be used to relay calls to unite individuals and groups to behave radically and cause actions that will disturb the public order and peace.
