The COVID pandemic shifted the requirements for the work skills in the domestic companies in North Macedonia. But what are actually their workforce needs should become known through the analysis of the workforce needs, which is for securing personnel for the needs of the companies, which is being prepared by the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia (ECNM) from the polls in the business sector.
The analysis should represent a profound analysis of the labor market, the current conditions and the possibilities and the potentials for training and re-training the workforce. This is a part of the project “Education for employment”, implemented with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
As was stressed during the press conference by Natasha Janoveska of ECNM, the efficient provision of appropriate, skilled workforce on the labor market, has key importance for the future plans and strategies of domestic companies which is significant for the competitiveness in domestic and foreign markets.
“The need for detailed analysis of the market’s condition and the companies’ needs of workforce is significant especially if it is taken into account that, according to the AVRM’s data, 54% of the total unemployed are either with primary education only or with no education. It is an obstacle for the development and the companies’ plans,” said Janevska, clarifying that the analysis will covern the country’s five regions, with responses from employers in companies from various sectors.
According to Blagica Novkovska from the Faculty of Tourism and Management, previous information from the polls that are underway has shown major differences in the supply and the demand. The most serious is the situation in the Skopje Region, where the supply and demand are at a higher level but are the offered skills that aren’t of any need for the companies. In the Eastern and the Pelagonia region the demand is bigger than the supply. In the Vardar region, there is a relatively good proportion between both, and in the Southeastern region, there is a higher rate of supply, on the account of the demand.
