Brussels expects the election of a Parliament Speaker and new government without further delay

The European Commission expects the democratic processes in Macedonia to continue, a new Speaker of Parliament to be appointed, and then a new government, said spokeswoman for the EC Maja Kocijančić at today’s press conference, when answering a question from a journalist to comment on developments in the Macedonian Parliament.

“We are following developments, we’ve said repeatedly and on a several occasions that the results of the recent parliamentary elections must be respected, and the current uncertainty must end and a government must be established without further delay, based on the parliamentary majority that is there”, said Kocijančić .

She also recalled that the High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Federica Mogherini and Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn called on the President to reconsider his position and assign the mandate to form a government with the parliamentary majority.

“We now expect all political leaders and institutions to allow the democratic processes runs its course and this includes the election of a new Speaker, we’d like to see that without any further delay”, said Kocijančić.
