The number of casualties in Tianjin reaches 112 people

-

The number of casualties in the explosion in the Chinese city of Tianjin climbed to 112 people, reports Chinese news agency Xinhua.

The fire that ignited in a dangerous chemicals depot caused a sting of huge explosions that injured 750 people. 85 Firefighters are still missing.

This has been the most fatal fire accident in the last sixty years, with 112 people perished and 21 firefighters.

The fear of contaminations caused a widespread evacuation of residents following the blasts which covered an area of three kilometers. The evacuation was carried out by armed policemen. On the site of the explosions, the police had discovered sodium cyanide, a dangerous substance which ignites in contact with water.

Chinese media reports say that in the depot there were 700 tons of sodium cyanide which is 70 times more than what was allowed. The government is working on removing the dangerous materials.

The large explosion happened forty minutes after a fire was reported and firefighters used water to extinguish it.
