The British Embassy in Macedonia in a statement called upon political leaders to reach a consensus on outstanding issues in order to ensure fair and democratic elections.
“Considerable work remains to be done to bring about credible elections, notably on the voters’ list and to create a level playing field in the media. Progress on reforms so far has been based on agreement between the four main parties. If a resolution of the continuing and damaging political crisis is to be found, the remaining issues must be resolved by consensus also – and in a way which ensures all parties engage in the elections and accept the result as the will of the Macedonian public.” reads the statement from the British Embassy issued after the selection of the transitional government who will conduct the elections, and after the opposition SDSM decision not to participate in the elections if they take place on April 24.
