-

Government spokesman Mile Bosnjakovski said today at a press conference that the Government will undertake activities for protecting the public from fake news and misinformation through announcements on social networks in the upcoming period during the referendum silence.

Any news, as Bosnjakovski announced, which is detected to be fake, misinformation or half-truth, will be appropriately identified and, as he explained, it will be announced as incorrect on the official communication channels of the Government, such as the “Twitter” page of the – spokesperson of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, as well as the official” Facebook” page of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia.

“The top priority of this Government is for the public to be provided with a comprehensive and objective approach to relevant and accurate information, on the basis of which citizens can decide on their own how to vote in Sunday’s referendum. The experience, especially during the campaign, highlighted the presence and spread of fake news, disinformation and hate speech, as well as the creation of news based on semi-information. Keeping in mind the damage to the public interest that may arise from false propaganda during the referendum silence, the Government of the Republic of Macedonia announces that it will not allow the public to be exposed to fake news, and will check the facts and present them before the general public,” said Bosnjakovski.

He appealed to citizens, to pay attention to the news during the silence, to analyze the sources from where the information is coming from and to double-check any news that seems unusual or sensational to them.
