ARM: We will stay at the border as long as necessary

-

Macedonian Army Soldiers (ARM) who were dispatched to the south border, two days after the Government declared an emergency situation because of the large inflow of migrants, said they will stay at the border to assist the police if needed, commented for Meta the ARM headquarters.

Colonel Gjorgovski from the headquarters says the army will stay there “as long as it is necessary.”

-The Army’s assistance will last as long as the relevant authorities decide to withdraw them back. Their decision will depend on the estimates that are made each day on the ground, but this depends on political level as well- said the spokesperson of the ARM Headquarters Mirche Gjorgovski.

Army troops were dispatched last Friday, two days after the Government made the decision to declare emergency situation in the border areas of the north and south.

-In the course of Friday, based on the decision of the President of the Commandeer of the HQ, we sent soldiers and equipment as requested by the Ministry of Interior- added Gjorgovski.

According to the legal code, part of the Army may assist the police in “crisis situations that endanger the national security, if the relevant authorities don’t have the appropriate resources for dealing with such situation.”

According to the latest information, following the tense events on Friday and Saturday, in the past two days the transport of migrants from the south border to the north crossing with Serbia is unfolding without any incidents.
