Court of Appeal annulled the first instance verdict of the eye surgeon Dejan Stavrik, who was sentenced to a year of prison because he allegedly took bribe of 2,000 euros to mediate a disability pension, reports “Fokus”.
Skopje Court of Appeal returned the case for retrial and, as “Fokus” reported, the new trial was scheduled for 7th of April.
– The case is returned for a retrial in the first instance court. It indicates that the Criminal Court seriously violated the provisions of the criminal procedure with instructions as to establish the facts and circumstances of making the right decision – was stated in part of the decision of the court which was submitted to the defense of Stavrik.
In May last year, Basic Court Skopje 1 sentenced surgeon Dejan Stavrik to one year imprisonment after one hearing at which the accused and witnesses were cross-examined, evidence were reviewed, after which, a verdict was passed.
