Angjushev: 42% of the first part of the railroad line towards Bulgaria is finished

By the mid-2020, the building of the railroad line from Kumanovo to Beljakovce will be finished. Vice Prime Minister for economic affairs, Kocho Angjushev together with the Minister of Transportation and Communications Goran Sugareski and the Director of Macedonian Railroads – Infrastructure, Irfan Asani, went to inspect of the accomplishment of the first phase of the railroad towards Bulgaria.

– During a year and a half, around 42% of the railroad was built or 70% of all construction activities – stressed Vice Prime Minister Angjushev.

The Minister of Transportation and Communications Goran Sugareseki explained that the construction works on the railroad from Kumanovo to Beljanovce are getting intensified. By the end of the year, the building of the railroad line will be finished while the building of the electric devices along the line will be finished next year.

The first part of the project for railroad connection with Bulgaria is built by the German company Bibe and it costs 40 million euros, which were secured through a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Vice Prime Minister Angjushev stressed that the evaluation of the tender regarding the second part of the railroad towards Bulgaria is in an evaluation phase. By the end of 2019, the contractor will be chosen and the construction operations in the area between Beljakovce and Kriva Palanka would start towards mid-2020. The finances for the second phase of the projects were secured through a grant approved by VBIF in the amount of 68 million euros while the remaining sum is a loan from EBRD.
