An inventive interactive event on the Steam Summer Sale-Discounts on Battle.net as well

-

The Steam Summer Sale is on, most of the bestseller titles are on big discounts and the sale will last until the 8th of July. What’s interesting is that Steam has a ongoing inventive interactive event that includes browsing at the newest and most popular games in categories and for each category there is a short story where you pick your next step between two choices just like in a book with multiple endings.

Books with multiple endings existed before computer games although they remind us of a game in the form of a book. With branching stories and many developments and endings, where most often the bad endings end with the death of the protagonists (the main characters). Also these types of books are an inspiration for the first text-adventure computer games.

In the event named Forge Your Fate there are 14,funny, surreal stories that are short to read and each one rewards you with a sticker that you can use in the Steam chat. If you pass all the 14 stories you get a frame for your profile picture and a badge according to the results from the stories. In the meantime before you play through all the stories one by one, you are browsing the newest and best games in the given category.

Pretty inventive marketing where people have fun. But still if you do the “gamers text jumping” you will only shorten your enjoyment in this interactive game. The people that read the text in the games, as the dialogs only enrich their experience and broaden their view of the game and they gain a greater  understanding for “the world” of the game.

There are World of Warcraft players that have finished over a 1000 quests(this is a real number without exaggeration) and they haven’t read even 10 of them fully, they just look at the quest objectives and do the quests. When we are on the topic of WoW there’s a big Summer Sale with discounts on games from Blizzard on their gaming platform Battle.net, the sale ends on 11th of July, although the main announcement is for discounts up to 67% the strange thing is that the discounts for their main games are smaller around 20-25% (21% for Diablo 3 and 25% for WoW Shadowlands) only Overwatch and Starcraft 1 Remastered are on descent 50% discounts, the rest are bundles of additional content, portraits, mini pets, wings, mounts or services for WoW such as boosts, character recustomization and many other things.

Blizzard became popular again with the free version of Call of Duty but even that game requires a better computer and a lot of free space on the hard disk. This game is not in the list of games supported by GFN(GeForce Now). The regular Starcraft 1 and the basic Starcraft 2 are now free to play. But Blizzard is generally a hated firm by most gamers because the firm asks for you to pay to participate, still there are small changes in that aspect.
